Why Every Pilates Teacher Should Be at the Contrology Conference This Year

Vitality Method Pilates Annual Contrology Conference

There is a particular kind of education that only happens when serious teachers gather in the same room. This is when ideas are tested out loud, when movement is demonstrated live, and when the deeper questions of our profession finally have the space to breathe. That is what the Vitality Method Pilates Annual Contrology Conference is built for. This year, we are bringing together an exceptional faculty of international voices to offer something that no online course or weekend workshop can replicate. The conference is always an immersive, professional-level Pilates education experience rooted in tradition and alive with perspective.

Our workshop faculty this year brings together three distinct voices. Dorothee Vandewalle, teaching from the United States, brings a depth of understanding that challenges and refines even experienced practitioners. Noam Gagnon joins us from Canada with a perspective shaped by years of rigorous study and a commitment to precision in both teaching and movement. Joel Crosby will be contributing workshops rooted in the successful Vitality Method framework — the same principles we work with every day in our busy studio. For private and group sessions, we are honored to welcome Carie Shanafelt from the United States and Maja Mulic-Behmen from Poland, two teachers whose work speaks for itself the moment they start teaching you on the apparatus and mat. Whatever your training lineage, whatever school of thought shaped your early years as an instructor, there is something here that will meet you where you are and pull you further. Noam and Carrie will also be teaching the always-popular “Old School Workout with Q&A” on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Saturday evening, we have something truly special: a presentation by Cathy Strack, a writer, Pilates historian, and teacher whose work reconnects us to the people, ideas, and history behind what we teach. In a fast-moving profession, it matters to pause and understand where we come from. Cathy’s presentation is not an add-on — it is an important offering of the entire weekend. The teachers who understand the history of this work carry it differently. They teach with a kind of authority that comes not just from practice, but from knowing. This is included in the full conference registration. The à la carte price to attend this offering is $20.00.

As always, we welcome teachers from every training background. This conference is not a competition of methods; it is a conversation and an experience among professionals who share a commitment to doing this work well. Great teaching does not begin with labels; it begins with curiosity, humility, and a genuine desire to help people move better and live healthier lives. If you teach Pilates and you care about growing as an instructor, this is your room. Join us at Vitality Method Pilates for a weekend that will strengthen your teaching, broaden your perspective, and remind you why this work matters. We hope to see you here.
