FAQ

Can I use my HSA/FSA account to place an order over the phone?

No. We currently only accept HSA/FSA payments for online orders.

What is an FSA or HSA and what are the benefits?

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) both provide tax benefits for health expenses, but they differ in ownership and flexibility. FSAs are employer-owned and have a "use it or lose it" policy, with unused funds expiring yearly. In contrast, HSAs are individually owned, remaining with you even if you change jobs, and can be opened by self-employed individuals. HSA funds can also be invested and grow tax-free, making them a more versatile long-term option for managing healthcare costs.

How can I spend my FSA or HSA funds at Contrology?

HSA and FSA providers often issue debit cards to purchase eligible items, and both can be used online or in physical stores. Alternatively, you can pay for health expenses using your regular credit or debit card, keep the receipts and submit them to your HSA or FSA provider for reimbursement.

I’m not seeing HSA or FSA options show up at checkout. Why not?

If the HSA/FSA payment option isn't showing up at checkout, it could be for a few reasons:

  • Product Eligibility: Only specific health-related items qualify for HSA/FSA payment. Verify that your purchase is eligible. Eligible products with have an HSA/FSA badge on the product page.
  • Shop Pay Auto-Selection: Shop Pay may block HSA/FSA options. Try completing your checkout as a guest.
  • Insufficient Funds: If your HSA/FSA balance is too low, the transaction might not go through.

If the issue persists, reach out to your HSA/FSA provider for further assistance.

I keep being pushed into Shop Pay. How do I use my HSA/FSA card?

Shop Pay may not always support HSA/FSA cards directly. To use your HSA/FSA card, try these steps:

  • Use a Different Payment Method: At checkout, enter your card details manually instead of using Shop Pay.
  • Disable Shop Pay: If Shop Pay is auto-selecting, you may need to opt out or choose “Checkout as Guest.”
  • Check Product Eligibility: Ensure the item qualifies for HSA/FSA purchases, as ineligible items may prevent the card from being accepted.

If you still have issues, contact your HSA/FSA provider for assistance.

What is a qualified customer?

A qualified customer for HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) products is someone who currently has an HSA or FSA account by meeting the eligibility standards.

How do I confirm eligibility when checking out?

At checkout, choose "Flex" as your payment method. You’ll be asked to complete a short telehealth survey about your HSA/FSA-approved condition. Within a few hours, you'll receive a Letter of Medical Necessity. If you opt to pay with a regular credit or debit card, you can submit this letter to your administrator for reimbursement.

Why do I need to provide my health information?

To use your HSA or FSA card for eligible products, a Letter of Medical Necessity is required by the IRS. Contrology has teamed up with Flex to offer convenient telehealth consultations during checkout. Within 24 hours of your purchase, you’ll receive an itemized receipt from Flex via email for submission to your administrator.

Help! I mistakenly entered my name and/or date of birth incorrectly.

No worries! Just email support@withflex.com, and they will reach out to their telehealth team to reprocess your submission and send a corrected Letter of Medical Necessity.

I did not receive an itemized receipt and/or Letter of Medical Necessity

If you can’t find the email, please check your spam folder, as messages from notifications@withflex.com may be filtered. If it's still missing, reach out to support@withflex.com and include the email address used for your order.

What if I don’t have my HSA/FSA card on hand?

No problem. If you don’t have your HSA or FSA card on hand, still choose “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA” as your payment method. Enter your regular credit card information, and Flex will email you an itemized receipt for reimbursement.

Is sales tax covered by HSA/FSA funds, or is it treated separately?

Yes. Sales tax for eligible items is also covered by HSA/FSA funds. If you have a split cart (something eligible and something ineligible), the tax will be allocated across the cards based on the items.
